Audience Accolades at Hollywood Fringe

Updated: Aug 9, 2018

"This is the best one woman play I’ve seen. Ashely Ford’s performance hooked me right off the bat, and Theo Salter’s writing was smart and engaging. These two have a bright future, and I look forward to seeing where they go!"

REVIEW BY DAVID DYKEMA

“As a one-woman show the stage was fully utilized and the energy was high. Props and costuming and stage direction was on point. The transition from character to character and time to time was also well managed… This young actress is spectacular in a solo performance. She really carries the show along and captivated the audience. This is a unique true story about a woman way ahead of her time, who was a leader of woman’s rights and the first woman to run for president. The story was wonderfully compelling and Ashley Ford is a darling on stage. I loved this original work also by this up and coming playwright Theo Salter”

REVIEW BY CHARMAINE HAMP

“Outstanding directing and a stellar performance by Ford… A powerful, fascinating, and enlightening portrayal of Victoria Woodhull. Ashely Ford is magnetic on stage and delivers an outstanding performance that captivates the audience. Theo Salter’s writing is cerebral and scholarly yet incredibly accessible. Both Ford and Salter do a beautiful job breathing life into Victoria Woodhull—the show is perfect for the 2018 zeitgeist and the #metoo movement. What an empowering and timely show!”

REVIEW BY AMANDA SMITH

“I thought it was really well acted. With Virginia and various other characters appearing. It was a lot of fun, and its politics were never heavy handed… Really well acted. This one person show draws you into the fascinating story of Virginia Woodhull, who I certainly had never heard of, but was an early feminist and free love advocate who was clearly well known at the time, and ran for president in 1872. The show is lively and funny and informative, and relevant to today.”

REVIEW BY DANIEL MINUCHIN

“Very strong script and direction! Loved the entrance/beginning of the show. Ashley’s vocal and physical character work is so specific, and she really takes her time to be so. I liked it all... Ashley Ford commands the stage with her wonderful storytelling! A true professional! She is compelling to watch and gives a very moving performance! She beautifully embodies the characters!... Not to mention she tells a story that is so relevant to today’s society. Beautifully done by all involved!”

REVIEW BY LAURA JO TREXLER

“Great character choices and very good levels of comedy and yet the real life problems that the characters had. Great connection with the audience and kept my attention. A very empowering show and a definite must see… Wonderful one Woman show. A fantastic tie between a period piece during the women’s sufferage act and today’s “Me too” movement. A strong performance and a great story.”

REVIEW BY RYAN MILES

“I loved the way Ashley set the tone and held the audience captive the whole time… A fantastic performance. An inspiring story. A must see of the Fringe Fest 2018.”

REVIEW BY EMILY DAVENPORT

“...This “one woman” show was really surprising. I had no idea was I was in for. In all it was a really enjoyable experience. It was very sharp and seemed well rehearsed and researched. The actress did a really good job embodying all the different characters and the message was clear.”

REVIEW BY MITCH WALSH

“...The warmth, believability and the personal relationship with the audience while staying in full character and never drifting from the timeline of the production… I was amazed at how one actor could transform into different aspects of the characters and timelines with no costume changes or special effects!”

REVIEW BY SARAH SYKES

“Fun and very informative! Great performance from lead actress. Victoria Woodhull lived quite the life—so if you don’t know her story, the show gives a good look into her life and the women’s suffrage movement in the US.”

REVIEW BY ALEX ELLIOTT

“The acting and writing were a perfect compliment to each other and kept me engaged! Really incredible play, with an amazing performance by Ashley Ford as Victoria Woodhull! Theo Salter’s writing is just perfect and he is someone to watch out for in this town. I haven’t been to a one woman should in awhile, and this play got me right back into them!”

“I loved the modern framing of the story and Ashley Ford is a wonderful actress… Engaging performance and fascinating history lesson.”

REVIEW BY MARNIE OLSON

“The prose was poetic with a satisfying melodic quality and the content was entertaining and informative. A fresh take on an untapped and fascinating person… Marvelously done in many ways.”

REVIEW BY JOE WILLAND

“The acting, writing, and direction were very strong and made the 45 minute play flow extremely well… Ford’s magnetic energy and divine delivery brought this already-strong story to incredible heights. The play was fascinating to watch from beginning to end and gave the audience a history lesson all at the same time!”
